The ear tags are available in sets
of two; a female and a male tag.
The tags are applied using the Allflex Total
Universal tagger.
We recommend
that you apply the ID Tag size of your
choice to the calf's left ear. The female button
(tamper evident ) should be placed in the
"front" ( same side where the ear
opening is ). The male point should enter the ear
cartilage from behind. See the package insert.
This way the tags will remain in the ear for the
longest possible period. This will also assist the
farmer to read the correct number if two incorrect
tag sets are applied. The male tag is always the
"default number"

4.
Swivel the two
tag pieces to be
facing 90
degrees to the
handles of the
tagger. This is
so that the tags
do not touch the
inside of the
ear when
applying to the
ear. This will
reduce the
number of tags
from dislodging
from the tagger.
This way, less interference occurs with the ear
and results in a much smoother tagging process. Once the male tag and the female tag have
been inserted correctly the tagging procedure is
ready.

5.
Draw
two imaginary
lines one from
the middle of
the ear from top
to bottom, the
other from the
middle of the
ear tip to the
base of the ear.
Where these two
lines cross,
place the tag.
The male tag
with its sharp
pin must ALWAYS
be attached from
the back end of
the ear (from
the tail's
side). The
female with the
receptacle from
the front (eye's
side).
Avoid scraping
the sharp pin of
the male tag on
the ear when
positioning it
as the animal
can feel this
and it can cause
the animal to
become restless.
The tagger is
punched firmly
and quickly.
Release one
handle
immediately when
applied, this
allows the
attached tag to
exit from the
tagger. Head
control is
critical to
reduce ear
damage, poor
quality tagging.
Ensure that
the animal's head is securely placed in a neck
clamp. Animals that jump or move excessively, lead
to poor tagging procedure. This may result in loss
of tags, immediately or even later.

6.
Here, it can be seen that the male tag is
correctly placed, from behind the ear and in the
centre of the ear.
